Export Source Code

How to export your website source code: HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Many website builders let you download a site, but fewer give you files you can maintain. Before you commit to a platform, check what its code export contains, how readable the files are and whether the website still works without the builder.

What a real code export should include

A usable export contains one HTML file per page, the stylesheet, the scripts your design needs, the images and a favicon. You should be able to open the files on your own computer and upload them to any compatible host without signing in to the builder or loading a vendor script.

Ask three questions before choosing a tool. Is the output readable, or only minified? Does every link and asset path stay relative, so the folder can move to another host? And is the export a snapshot you own, or a live connection that stops working when you cancel?

What the AlinaWeb HTML export contains

The HTML export is a folder with one HTML file per page, with index.html as the homepage, plus assets/css/style.css, assets/js/main.js when your design uses scripts, and your images in assets/images. The stylesheet and script are minified for production, and the readable originals are included in assets/src so you can edit them.

The package also includes robots.txt, a sitemap.xml when the project has a Website URL, a 404.html page, an .htaccess file for Apache and a HOSTING.md guide that includes an nginx equivalent. A favicon set is generated from the favicon you upload. Wide images can be exported with responsive WebP versions, and third-party notices are included when your design uses libraries that require them.

Check the files before you publish

Extract the download, open every page and follow its links. Use your browser to view the page source and confirm that each page has the title, description and canonical address you intend. Resize the window to check the mobile layout, then upload to a staging address and test again on the real host.

Static pages run on any host that serves HTML. A form that sends messages needs server-side handling, so confirm that your host supports it and send a test message before the address goes live. Image, font and embed services you add keep their own network requirements and licenses.

Edit, version and re-export safely

Treat each export as a snapshot. Put the extracted files under version control so you can see what changed, and keep your manual edits in a branch. Changes made in a code editor are not synchronized back into the visual project, so compare a later export with your working copy instead of overwriting it.

When you continue with an AI assistant, provide the exported source together with the AI Handoff package so that the assistant knows the page structure, components and responsive rules. Review its changes and test the result before replacing files on your host.

Choose HTML or a WordPress theme

Choose HTML for a portfolio, service website or company presentation that does not need WordPress content management. Choose the WordPress export when the destination is a WordPress site and you want an independent theme that does not depend on a page-builder plugin.

Exports require an account and a saved project, and account limits apply. You provide the hosting, the domain and, for WordPress, the installation. Direct FTP or SFTP publishing from the builder is Coming soon; today you download the package and upload it with your own hosting tools.
